Black History Month: Honoring the Legacy of Black Health Professionals and Scholars

Black History Month. Celebrating Black Contributions: Dr. Daniel Hale Williams. HHS OMH.

This Black History Month, the HHS Office of Minority Health (OMH) is celebrating the achievements of Black communities and honoring the significant role and impact they have made on all facets of life and society throughout U.S. history.

In 1893, Dr. Daniel Hale Williams became the first Black cardiologist to perform the first successful open-heart surgery.

Stress and Congestive Heart Failure

This study, sponsored by Yale University and the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI), seeks volunteers age 18 years or older who have or will be receiving an implanted pulmonary artery pressure (PAP) monitor. The purpose of this study is to investigate whether acute stress can precipitate congestive heart failure exacerbation in patients with heart disease. The study will be carried out at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut.

A Mobile Application to Promote Self-management and Improve Outcomes in Heart Failure

This study, sponsored by the University of Michigan and the National Institute on Aging (NIA), seeks volunteers age 18 years or older. This study will investigate the effectiveness of two just-in-time adaptive interventions delivered via a mobile app for heart failure patients. The study will be carried out at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan, the Henry Ford Hospital System in Detroit, Michigan, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in North Carolina, and the Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia.
