Research suggests that several complementary health approaches, particularly psychological and physical approaches (also called mind and body practices), may be helpful for people with asthma, when used in addition to conventional medical treatment.  

  • Studies in both adults and children have found that practicing yoga may be helpful for asthma symptoms and quality of life. 
  • The use of acupuncture has been associated with improved asthma symptoms but not with improvement in measures of lung function. 
  • Only a small amount of research has been done on meditation for people with asthma. However, the studies that have been done so far suggest that meditation may help to improve quality of life.
