Employers are prioritizing ways to increase access to jobs for individuals with

Autism, and improve retention through job support. The Autism Society of America fields calls daily from employers seeking guidance to create more inclusive workplaces. Acceptance is accommodating the unique needs of individuals with Autism. Over 70% of Autistic adults are underemployed or unemployed, and only about one-third of these adults work in paid jobs for more than 15 hours a week.

With your help, we can start closing the employment gap for the 5.4 million Autistic adults in the United States.

The Autism Society embraces a "Fulfillment Mindset," which recognizes the importance of social-emotional fulfillment as one of many employment goals and outcomes for Autistic individuals. The Autism Society of America champions many avenues to employment, from continued learning and passion projects, to job/career shadowing, volunteering, coaching, and part-time or full-time integration into competitive integrated employment.

Together, we can expand employment opportunities and outcomes.

Employment plays a pivotal role in transitions to adulthood, independent living, socialization, self-worth, and confidence. It is essential for Autistic individuals to have access to a variety of industries and opportunities that align with their interests, strengths, and passions. By doing so, we aim to empower Autistic individuals to make informed decisions about their career paths, in whatever type of role that looks like, while simultaneously promoting diversity and inclusion in the workforce.
