The Autism Society of America is working to increase water safety skills across the Autism community to prevent wandering-related tragedies. We’re currently piloting our learn-to-swim program in Florida in collaboration with the Children’s Services Council of Palm Beach County and Small Fish Big Fish. The pilot program is designed to train swim instructors how to meet the needs of Autistic swimmers. Learn more about our pilot program here. Wandering Resource Autistic individuals are more likely than the general population to identify as LGBTQIA+, meaning that many Autistic individuals navigate multiple layers of disclosure, or coming out in the workplace. Disclosing these aspects of identity can be challenging due to the potential for stigma and discrimination. Finding support in community through acceptance and connection in personal and professional spaces can be an important part of one’s personal journey.  Read More The Autism Society of America was honored to present Safety on the Spectrum at the 5th Annual National Co-Responder's Conference in Omaha last month. In addition to providing education and resources to support the Autism community, our team learned valuable information about co-responder models, crisis intervention strategies, and best practices at the intersection of behavioral health and policing.
