Credit: CDC NIAID scientists learned why some people receiving cancer treatments called Bruton's tyrosine kinase (BTK) inhibitors develop infections caused by Aspergillus fungi. The BTK pathway, which is blocked by the treatment, plays a crucial role in providing antifungal immunity. The scientists say this finding may lead to improved care for people receiving BTK inhibitors. The findings were published in the Journal of Clinical Investigation.
