Autism Is an Odyssey

Autism is an odyssey. It isn't about reaching finishing line. It's about becoming.

The Autism Is campaign acknowledges that no two Autistic individuals have the same lived experience. Autism is both personal and collective—an identity, a community, a culture, and a way of life. It comes with strengths and struggles, moments of joy and challenge, and everything in between.

Throughout April, we're sharing stories that celebrate the diversity of the Autism experience.

Voices of Autism: LeAnne's Story

LeAnne smiling - Autism is an odyssey

Odyssey represents our family's journey - Autism is just one word for a reality filled with challenges, joy, and constant effort." - LeAnne N., Parent.

Read her full story below.

"Odyssey represents our family's journey. Autism is just a word - it doesn't capture the full, everyday reality we live: navigating symptoms, joys, challenges, IEPs, services, appointments, and social situations.

This odyssey is uniquely ours. We're tired. Our son is tired. Every day takes effort - effort to stay connected, to find joy, to redefine goals, to locate the right teachers, the right services, and the strength to love each other through it all.

Our path isn't straight, it twists and reshapes us. Autism doesn't just affect our son, it transforms our whole family. As he grows, we grow too. Our priorities shift, our understanding deepens. This journey is emotional, intellectual, and spiritual. It's full of learning, unlearning, advocating, adjusting, and embracing.

Our odyssey isn't about reaching a finish line. It's about becoming. And every morning, love is what gets us up to do it all again."

The Autism Is campaign is shaped by stories like Craig’s—amplifying the voices and lived experiences of Autistic individuals. We want to hear what Autism Is to you.
