| Dear Hcis,
This week, the CDC released a major update: 1 in 31 eight-year-old children in the U.S. are now identified with Autism.
This rise in prevalence does not signal an “epidemic” as narratives are claiming — it reflects diagnostic progress along with an urgent need for policy decisions rooted in science and for us to address the immediate needs of the Autism community.
Behind every number is a person:
- A child waiting for a diagnosis
- A family navigating long waitlists
- A community demanding access and equity
As national conversations around Autism take center stage, the Autism Society urges the media and public leaders, healthcare providers, and media to speak with accuracy, inclusivity, and dignity.
We’re grateful to elevate our advocacy efforts to highlight facts, resources, and the diverse needs of the Autism community in global publications like, Associated Press, Reuters, Fox News, ABC News, BBC, The Hill, CBC, Disability Scoop, and more.
Your support helps us:
- Advocate for equitable, evidence-based research and health policy
- Fight to protect Medicaid, a life-changing program for many in the Autism community
- Educate community members, providers, employers, and society about Autism
- Connect families to critical services and support
