| April is Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) Awareness Month. Symptoms of IBS include abdominal pain with changes in bowel movements (diarrhea, constipation, or both). Research has been done on several complementary health approaches to see whether they are helpful for IBS symptoms. - There is some evidence that peppermint oil may help reduce IBS symptoms. For other herbal products, the evidence is too limited to allow any conclusions to be reached.
- Gut-directed hypnotherapy may help with IBS symptoms and improve health-related quality of life.
- Some evidence suggests that certain probiotics may improve IBS symptoms, but the evidence is not conclusive.
