Funding and Opportunities NHTSA Seeking New Members for National EMS Advisory Council – October 20. The U.S. Department of Transportation's National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is now accepting applications for appointment to the National Emergency Medical Services Advisory Council (NEMSAC). NEMSAC is composed of EMS and 911 professionals and consumer representatives who provide advice and recommendations on issues impacting the EMS community. Research from the Maine Rural Health Research Center found that more than 4.5 million people in 41 states live in areas over 25 minutes from the nearest ambulance station, leaving many communities without timely emergency care. Serving on NEMSAC gives EMS professionals the opportunity to participate in the national conversation on EMS issues such as access to care, and offer critical information, advice and guidance to the Federal Interagency Committee on EMS and the Secretary of Transportation. MA organizations must also attest at least annually that the directory information is correct. The intent is to provide Medicare beneficiaries with clear, up-to-date information about which doctors and facilities are in a plan's network and what care options exist locally.
