Menopause Symptoms and Complementary Health Approaches

During the years around menopause, some women have hot flashes, night sweats, difficulty sleeping, or other troublesome symptoms. A variety of complementary health approaches have been studied to see whether they can help relieve these problems.  

  • Yoga seems to be at least as effective as other types of exercise in relieving menopause symptoms. 
  • Some studies of hypnotherapy and mindfulness meditation have had promising results. However, research on these approaches is in its early stages. 
  • The evidence doesn't support claims that custom-mixed (compounded) bioidentical hormones are more effective than conventional hormone therapy.

The 4th of July is a favorite summer holiday for many. Summer weather, grilling season, festivals, and fireworks can make it a memorable time of year. But while the 4th of July is cherished by many, for others it can be stressful. Autistic children and adults may particularly find the 4th of July challenging due to large crowds, loud fireworks, and overall unpredictability. By taking proactive measures, we can ensure that 4th of July celebrations are inclusive and welcoming to everyone.

  • Autism Society Ventura County is hosting not one BUT two Family Pool Parties on Saturday, July 14th, and Saturday, July 21st at Ventura Aquatic Center. The Aquatics Center will be opened exclusively for registered ASVC families and closed to the public.


  • Autism Society Hawaii is hosting its annual Hilo Autism Resource Fair + Ohana Day at Wailoa Park in Hilo, Hawaii on Sunday, July 14th from 10 AM to 2 PM (HST). This event brings together the community with local providers and support.


  • Autism Society Maine is hosting their Benefit Golf Tournament on Saturday, July 20th at 8:00 AM EST at The Meadows Golf Club in Litchfield, Maine. Join them for a day of golf while enjoying the outdoors for a great cause! There’s room for 25 teams (4 players per team). Lunch and golf carts are provided! Prizes are included for the top player, there’s a 50/50 raffle, closest to pin, and a long drive & putting contest. Registration requires the full team (4) to register at once

NIH-Sponsored Trial of Nasal COVID-19 Vaccine Opens

A Phase 1 trial of an experimental nasal COVID-19 vaccine is now enrolling healthy adults at three sites in the United States. This is the first time that the vaccine, which was designed and tested in pre-clinical studies by scientists from NIH's National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), is being tested in people. The candidate vaccine could provide enhanced breadth of protection against emerging virus variants.
