Have you considered trying acupuncture to help manage a health problem? Acupuncture is a technique in which practitioners insert fine needles into the skin. It originated in traditional Chinese medicine but is now used worldwide.

In the United States, acupuncture is most commonly used for pain, such as back, joint, or neck pain. Studies show that it may be helpful for these problems. How acupuncture works is not fully understood. However, there's evidence that it may have effects on the nervous system and other body tissues as well as nonspecific (placebo) effects.

Acupuncture is generally safe when performed properly using sterile needles. Improperly performed acupuncture can cause serious harmful effects, including injuries and infections.
